LIM8 - Let's Get Sketchy

Another Saturday and another great challenge at Less is More. This week is sketch week and here's the sketch we're working from:

It's a very sweet and simple sketch, and here's my take on the sketch:

First of all, I had no idea what size card a "DL" card was, but after getting clarification on it, I've made a card that the approximate finished size is 4 x 8 inches.  I don't think I've made a card this size ever, so I will probably have to make my own envelope for it...or not, since I decided that I'd go ahead and make an anniversary card for my hubby.  On April 11, we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary...so I thought a little "fancy" card might be in order.  I don't really think it's girly...just dressed up in a tuxedo! LOL!  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to emboss the background. Since the folder isn't long enough to do the full eight inches, I embossed one end, then turned it around, matching up the design, and embossed the other end.  In the area where the two embossing met, it was a little off...but as it happens, that's exactly where I wanted to put the ribbon.  I layered a 3/4" black satin ribbon with a 1/2" red velvet ribbon on top.  After adhering the ribbon to the back of the embossed piece, I layered the whole thing on a piece of black cardstock leaving just a tiny border around the embossed piece.  The tag was cut with a Spellbinder die that I recently ordered.   I actually cut it once out of white card stock and then again out of the black and layered them slightly off center so that the black edges would show.  I stamped the sentiment from Flourishes on the tag and added three flat-backed red pearls to the bottom.  The embossed piece and the tag are pop-dotted for dimension.

Now...WHAT on earth am I going to get my man for our anniversary to go with this card! Any suggestions?

I appreciate all those who took the time to stop by my blog and leave me a comment.  Your thoughtfulness and kindness is much appreciated!

Thanks so much for stopping by!   Until next time....

Hugs!

This is beautiful Susan, a super card for your hubby. In the UK the 30th Anniversary is the Pearl Anniversary... does that give you any ideas for a gift?

Oh Wow. This is fabulous. I love the embossing and that die cut is wonderful. You`re right, it does have a look of a Tuxedo, lol. After this I don`t think you need to buy him anything, just a big sloppy kiss should do the trick.

Susan, THANK YOU for your wonderful feedback on one of my cards. Just the thing i was after and i agree with you about the egg border,i wasn't too sure about making this one. Sometimes i need to experiment with shapes and colours etc, maybe it would have looked better on a DL card rather than a tall small... Not going to try it though lol:-)

As usual your card is awesome, so elegant and well placed. Stunning entry for this weeks challenge. Oh, i forgot to say thanks for dropping by:-)

Gorgeous card, Susan- very stylish!! :) The folder and die work together beautifully!! :)
Thanks for your comment on my cards- as to how I did my embossing without cutting my B Plate... can't exactly remember what I did as it was trail and error a few times with being my first attempt at Nestie embossing, but I'm pretty sure I did cut into it, though it was only the plate that's marked from my normal cutting so I didn't worry ;) I prefer the solid outline of doing it that way round :)
hugs, Rachel x
