It's a New Year...

It's a new year....and hopefully, I'll be better about posting this year!

I've been doing a lot of knitting, crocheting, and a bit of scrapbooking lately, and I've finally made a few cards too.

Let me show you some of the cards I've made.  This first card is using some of the techniques from the Clean & Simple Card Class I'm currently taking.

I wanted to dress up my scallops a bit, so I used some of my new Spellbinder border dies to cut the scallops.  The butterfly is from Hero Arts, stamped in Memento black, and colored with Copics.  I added a touch of clear Wink of Stella to the butterfly for a little sparkle.  The sentiment is heat embossed with platinum embossing powder.  Sentiment is from PTI. I popped each layer with foam tape over a gold card base.

This next group of cards are some that I made using techniques from Jennifer McGuire's video for faux laser cut cards which you can find by clicking on the link.

For the lacy inset for this card, I used a Spellbinder die.  The aperture was cut using the stitched rectangle die from Simon Says....I just did a little partial die-cutting to make it a square.  I used a white card base, and did a little blending of distress inks for the background. The sentiment is from PTI and is heat embossed in white (although it looks a little yellow on here!)

For this card, I used a large hexagon die to cut the aperture, then used the next larger hexagon die to cut a purple border for the opening.  The floral section in the middle is a large die from Anna Griffin and Cuttlebug.  It's really a beautiful die!.  The sentiment is from PTI.

This card is made along the same lines as the two above, except this card's lacy insert is made by using 4 Spellbinder die cut trees to fill in the opening.  I used an oval die for the opening, then filled it with the trees.  The banner was cut from paper to match the backing of the lacy center, and heat embossed with a sentiment from PTI.  I had to add a few small blooms to the top of the oval to cover up an inky mistake!

These next two cards are also inspired by Jennifer McGuire's partial die cutting video.

The die is from Simon Says - Calliope Flourish.  I simply cut just a portion of the die and moved it across the paper and cut it several times.  The sentiment is from PTI.  Added a few white sequins to finish it off.  The panel is adhered to the card base with foam tape.

I'm also submitting this card for the CASology Challenge this week....with the keyword of Birthday. I guess I could have submitted most of these cards since I seem to be on a birthday card kick this week!

Same idea here, I just adhered it directly to the card base.  Sentiment is also from PTI.

CTS#69 and Online Card Class

I've been making a few cards this week...so be prepared for a loooooong post!

This first one is for the CAS(E) This Sketch #69 challenge.  Here's the sketch...

And here's my card (I really was true to the sketch!)  :)

I also used some of the partial embossing techniques from Online Card Class - Clean and Simple 3.  I embossed the dots leaving a small 1 inch space in the middle for the sentiment.  The sentiment is from PTI and is stamped in black.  I layered the flourishes (I cut three of each) and adhered them with glossy accents. I added a small pink border, then adhered two small pink pearls.  Done....

Now for a few more cards I've created this week...some using techniques from the card class and some just for fun.

 This is a one layer birthday card created using techniques from the CAS card class...I LOVE how it turned out!

This is another one layer card created just for fun....

I think I made this card for one of the LIM challenges, but never got it posted.  I seem to have trouble getting my photographs done lately...nothing wrong with my camera...I'm just lazy!

This last card is one I made for one of my grandsons.  I used the robot silhouette cut file that I designed and popped him over a background that I sponged ink over a gear template. Turned out kinda cool...hope he likes it!  If you'd like to have this file, just click on the link and download.

Another His and Hers Class project...

I made another card for the His and Hers class.  Using techniques from day 3, here's my take:

I stamped a very large Hero Arts image in a light grey on watercolor paper.  I painted the flower with watercolors and a touch of shimmery paint.  The sentiment is stamped in black and is from PTI.  After my flower dried, I splatted a bit of paint over the background. The panel was adhered to a black card base.  To give the image a little more pop, I outlined all the outer edges of the flower with a black pen.  As a finishing touch, I added some glitter to the center of the flower.

LIM 118 ---Wild with Color

The challenge this week at Less is More is to create a card using opposing colors on the color wheel. 

I seem to always have trouble with a color challenge...don't have any idea why..but it really is the most difficult for me, I think.  Anyway...here's what I finally came up with.....

I also used some of the techniques we learned this week in the His & Hers online card class.  For this first card, I masked off the top portion of the car and stamped the image in white on Kraft card stock.  I then masked off a small line at the top of the stamped image and inked it up with some white.  After the ink was completely dry, I colored the image with Prisma color pencils and used the opposing colors violet and yellow.   I mounted the kraft panel to a violet card base.

For this second card I used the colors yellow-green and violet-red.  It looks kind of pink on here, but this card front was made with watercolor paper.  I stamped the flowers in a light ink, then added the water colors.  After the panel dried, I outlined the stamped image with a black pen to give it a little pop.  The sentiment was stamped on vellum and embossed in white. In order to really capture the colors for the challenge, I added strips of color around the panel in yellow-green and violet-red.  I also used my paint brush to splatter drops of the two colors over the stamped image.

This is another card I made using techniques from the His and Hers class.  I colored strips of vellum with Copic markers, cut them in varying lengths and adhered them to a white card panel.  I stamped "birthday" on a strip of vellum and adhered it around the card panel. The word "happy" was cut with alpha dies from Simon Says Stamps and are adhered over the vellum strips.  I used the opposing colors blue and orange for this card.

I think this last card is starting to grow on me now.  I wasn't too sure I liked it at first, but it's getting better! LOL!  I used opposing colors blue-violet and yellow-orange for this card.  I use my large Memory Box (Chloe) butterfly die to embossed a white panel (4 x 5.25 inches).  I colored the butterfly with Copics, then added a little sparkle in the "grooves" with a clear star pen (Sakura).  I wanted to add just a little more zip...so I painted over the coloring with some twinkling H20 paints. Since I wasn't using water color paper I was afraid it would not work...but laying the Copic ink down first seemed to help.  I added a light yellow-orange shadow around the butterfly. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamps. I layered the panel on a piece of yellow-orange paper and adhered it to a white card base. Is it CAS enough??

His and Hers Homework....and CASology

I've been taking the online card classes for a while now.  I believe I've signed up for the last 3 or 4, but I've never posted a card that I made using techniques from the class.  Not that I haven't used the techniques...but just haven't posted a card before this.  The classes are ALWAYS jam packed with beautiful cards and excellent videos!  If you've never given one of the classes a try, I can highly recommend them!  Here's a link to the classes.  The prices are always reasonable...and the knowledge you walk away with it unbelievable!  (BTW...I'm not a paid spokesperson...I just LOVE the classes!)

Anywho....here's a couple of cards I made today putting some that wonderful information into practice.

This first card was shown to us as an anniversary card, but since I don't know anyone having an anniversary, I thought I'd make my card and link it to the current challenge at CASology.

As you can see the cue word for this week is "care".  I was sure I had a stamp that had something about "care" on it, but couldn't find it anywhere!  So....I used the "just because" from PTI and then generated the "I care" in word and printed it on the card!  The card we were shown in class had a circle and heart on it, but I didn't have a circle stamp, so I decided that in that part of the sketch I'd just use a butterfly.  I used a MB butterfly and colored him with Copics and added a little glitter with a glitter pen, then adhered him to the card with a pop dot just under the body so that the wings are not adhered to the card.  I punched several small white hearts and layered them, then colored the top heart to match the butterfly and added a layer of glossy accents, then pop dotted it onto the card. The front of the card is cut shorter than the back and gently rounded.  I masked off part of the inside of the card and used the large Impression Obsession strip stamp to stamp the lines on a diagonal.  Finally, I added a few faux stitches along the curved edge.

Edited to add: I had someone ask for an explanation of the MB butterfly. It's a die made by Memory Box....you can get one here.

When I saw this card in class on day 4...I KNEW I had to make one like it!  The card made in the class for for Mother's Day or Father's day...but I don't need a Mother's Day or Father's Day card...however, I do need a card to welcome a new little girl into the neighborhood.  Our neighbors across the street just had their first child...a little girl!  I'm very excited for them...and even happier that it's not me! LOL!  Anyway...this card is so different.  I made a small card in white, then with my striped stamp from the first card, I stamped the diagonal lines on the front of the white card in a pretty pink.  I cut a white piece to fit across the pink diagonal front and used a Simon Says die to cut the scallops.  I added some faux stitching to the scallops.  I embossed the PTI sentiment in white on a pink tab and adhered it to the back of the white card and folded it over the front.  The pearly looking heart was made by punching 4 hearts, adhering them together, then adding liquid pearls to the top.  I pop dotted the heart on the front of the card and that's what is holding down the flap.  I adhered the small white card onto a bright pink single layer base and added some faux stitching around the edges of the white card.  Now...does that make sense?  Here's how the card looks when it's opened up:
