So, first thing this morning, I checked out Chrissie and Mandi's new challenge at Less is More. Here's what I found:
So it's week 14 and the first challenge of the month which means 'Colour'
This week we want to see
WHITE ON WHITE
You will have come across this before, but we want to stress we do mean WHITE on WHITE, no
coloured images or additions, with the exception of outlines!
Well, it just so happens that I've actually done several white on white cards and layouts in the past, so hey, I knew this challenge would be easy peasy! Ha Ha!! Once again, it's a case of, if you don't have to do a specific "thing" it just seems to flow...when you are asked to do a specific thing, you mind goes totally B.L.A.N.K. Yep, that's exactly what happened to me. I made this first card, and frankly I find it kind of boring.
I embossed and pop dotted a panel with the "plants" and using an technique from Chrissie for a faux nestie, I added a small embossed edge around my panel. The butterfly is a Spellbinder die that I've had for several years. In fact, I actually bought it before I had any idea how to use a Spellbinder die! I've learned a lot in the past several years! I don't know if you can see it, but I embossed "thinking of you" as the trail on the butterfly with white embossing powders. I did add a little glitter and some pearls to the butterfly.
Since I wasn't really crazy about my first card, I decided to go ahead and make a second card.
For this card, I used a Tim Holtz brick wall embossing folder adhered directly to the card base. The stems and leaves are a Sizzix die, the small blooms are a EK Success punch, and the butterfly is a Martha Stewart punch. I added a small pearl to the center of each bloom and the butterfly. I also added a little clear glitter to the butterfly, but for some reason it photographed with a little color in it. I only adhered the leaves and branches in spots so that parts of it would be raised slightly. I didn't add a sentiment to this since I really didn't see a good place to add one...and I didn't want to add another layer...so, this card can be used for any occasion I chose...birthday, thinking of you, hello...maybe even a sympathy card. At any rate, I'm much happier with this one. (HA! I just realized...not one stamp was used on this card! I think that's a first for me!)
Earlier I mentioned that I have done white on white before, so I thought I'd include a layout that I made in 2008 of my precious little granddaughter, Helen Grace.
The black border was added digitally so that the edges of the layout didn't disappear when posted. Some of the white here has a yellow cast...but it's all definitely white. I used lots of buttons, some chipboard flowers and chipboard letters for the title. The big scroll is a quickutz die. I even added a bit of lace and ribbon.
Thanks again for all the wonderful comments you've left for me this week. Many of you even came back when I posted a second card for last week's challenge...and I truly appreciate you coming by twice and leaving me some luv!! So...once again....THANK YOU!! Your comments brighten my day and encourage me! Until next time....
Hugs!

I just love your butterfly on the first card and all the texture on your second card! Superb!
Hi Susan as usual your entries are full of inspiration and so creative. Loving all three as each one is so very different. Have to agree that your second card is slightly ahead (not by much though)and it's all because of how you've used the brick wall. That's going on my list of 'needs' now.
Thanks for sharing your stunning work:-)
I love both cards, although I think I like the first best! The layout is beautiful, too! Well done on this challenge!
Beautiful cards as always from you Susan. Love the scrapbook page also. Sandra x

Two lovely cards and yes the second one is stunning. Love the scrapbook page, your GD is so cute. Carol x
Beautiful cards and a great LO
1 - Your cards are fabulous; I love both, but the second one is my favorite. I love the embossed wall with the vine of flowers. I was just about to post another card that is similar. I think I'll save it for another day.
2 - Your scrapbook page is fabulous!! I would never have tried W/W for scrapbooking, but you really showed how its a winner. I think the yellowish tint is because of the different types of materials. I had the same problem with buttons. They all looked like different shades of beige.
3 - I just looked at your craft room pictures. No wonder your cards are so gorgeous. You are so organized!! Your space is amazing; I will never post pictures of my craft room now....there is nothing pretty about chaos!! LOL
TFS - I always enjoy your cards!!
Carole
I like both your card and your scrap book page! I liked your embossed sentiment trailing from your butterfly on the first and your wall on the second with the climbing flowers. Your scrapbook page is a gorgeous compliment to the photo. x
