LIM 106 - Let's Make Music!

I was sad to see that Mandi will no longer be able to participate and lead us in the Less is More challenge, but a big Thank You out to Jen for stepping up to join Chrissie as our hostess with the most-est! I'm not sure I could come up with all these diabolically difficult fun challenges, so I'm glad that Chrissie and Jen will continue to keep us challenged!

It's one layer week at Less is More and we've been challenged to create a one layer card with a theme of music.  I remember when we had another "music" challenge, and for me...that's definitely a challenge since I own virtually no stamps that relate to music.  I do have a couple of huge sheet music stamps, but it's SO difficult to make a CAS card with such a big stamp!  Anyway, I stewed over this one for several days, and finally realized that I'd made 5 cards...and I honestly can't say that any of the cards make me happy.  Let's just say that music is definitely not my forte.

Here's this week's pitiful offerings:

This was the first card I made.  I printed the music note on the card base using my Silhouette program.  The sentiment is from PTI.  I added some black stickles to the note...let that dry...then added some glossy accents on top of the stickles.  It give the note a bit of dimension without adding layers.  Too plain....off to my next effort:

I found the music score online and printed it on the card base, then I stamped the little bird (no idea where this stamp is from as I've had it forever).  The sentiment is from Hero Arts, I believe.  I curved it on my acrylic block to fit under the music.  Then I colored the bird with Copics, added a few bits of grass with two different green Copics. The flower on the bird was coated with stickles, then I added a small gem as the center of the flower.  Eh...not to bad...but moving on...

Then I found this Christmas stamp with bells on it...perfect, I thought.  I made the card 4.25 x 4.25, stamped the image, colored with Copics, and added the sentiment under the image.  I also added a touch of glitter pen to the snowflake, and some glossy accents to the bells. Super simple... yet still not right....

This card started out with just the music score on it....then I decided to mask off the music and stamp over it with a striped stamp. As you can see the masking wasn't quite right, so the strips don't actually meet the music on the bottom.  Then in the process, I managed to get some of the teal ink on the top of the card, so I had to add a couple of butterflies to cover the ink blobs.  The birthday sentiment is from Sweet & Sassy stamps (I think), and is stamped in black.  Then hoping to tie it all together, I added a couple of score lines on top of the stripes....might have liked this if the masking had been better!  The music score is a very old Prima stamp and I never can get a good clean and crisp image...maybe it's me and not the stamp?

Last ditch effort...I decided to doodle my own music, so I drew a little wavy keyboard...and it's a little crooked too!  The sentiment is from PTI.  I added three small gems to add a little punch of color...maybe next week's challenge won't be quite so challenging for me!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I appreciate the time you took to visit and all your wonderful comments! Until next time...

Hugs!

OMG - you are way too hard on yourself - each one of these is a perfectly great card - the stickles/glossy accents idea is COOL!, the bird is so sweet, the Christmas bells will be going into my casing file for my mom, who loves bells, no one will notice that your green stripes don't line up (UNLESS YOU TELL THEM, of course!) and it's so fresh and springy AND your hand drawn keyboard has me slapping my head saying 'why didn't I think of that'. This is a full card set for the music teacher in my humble opinion.

Will you stop putting yourself down Susan - you produce the most amazing cards and these are no different although the first two are my favourites. Were you joking about music not being your "forte"???? Music term eh? hehe

Hugs.

I'm glad someone else struggled with this, although your cards really don't show it at all. I like the last one best, but they are all great. I know what you mean though, sometimes my cards just don't excite me, even though I made them!
