Challenge 36 - Trying a new Tangle - Assunta

There's a new tangle challenge this week at I am the Diva blog spot.  Our challenge this week was to create a tangle using a new tangle called "Assunta" which you can find the directions to HERE.  I played around with it for a while, but I never could draw it using the "formula" given.  I finally resorted to just eyeballing it...and drawing each "bloom" individually.  I'll have to tell you that my initial try was really bad!  It found it's way to the circular file rather quickly! Here' what I ended up with for my entry:

Thought I share a layout I finished this weekend too.  This is my beautiful little granddaughter, Maggie.  My daughter came for a visit in April and they all went to the beach for a few hours on Saturday morning. Doesn't she just look adorable in her little teal bathing suit?

The title work and the waves were both cut with the Silhouette.  I've just learned to "weld" my letters together and I'm loving all that I can do with it.  The sand pail and the ball were also cut with the Silhouette.  I've read that there's a new 12" width Silhouette coming out...and I'll definitely have to have it! The waves were cut from the Echo Park Splash collection. (the background is also Echo Park Splash).  The title, ball, shovel, and pail were cut from white card stock and colored with Copics.  I tore a small piece of white paper for my "sand" and colored it with Copics. Then I added a light layer of glitter.  The sand in the bucket is actually micro beads adhered with very sticky double sided tape.  On the tips of each wave, I added a touch of white puffy paint and after it dried, I set it with the heat gun and the white puffed up....thought that was kinda cool.  I love that in the one picture, Maggie looks like she's throwing the ball!  I also added a bit of doodling at the corners of the photos to "frame" them.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I really appreciate your comments! They make me happy! Until next time....

LIM29 - Something that Moves

This week's challenge at Less is More is a theme challenge.  We've been challenged to make a card with things that move...that could be an image or something on the card that actually moves.  I have a feeling this week the cards will be a-flutter with butterflies!

This week I've made two different cards - both with something that moves.  This first card is actually a card that moves.  This first photo is of the card closed. The card base is green and I've used rusty red/orange and yellow as accent colors.  The sentiment is computer generated.  The butterfly on the front is punched with a MS punch.  The flowers on the front are hand drawn.  I couldn't find a stamp that would "fit" like I wanted it to, so I just drew in some flowers with a Copics multiliner pen and then colored them with Copics.  I sponged the edges of the white paper with some Memento bamboo green.  The butterfly is only adhered at the body so that the wings can be lifted.  I used 3 small orange pieces of bling for the body of the butterfly and added a dotted trail with a black pen.

Here's what the card looks like opened up.  The yellow panels slide open when you open the card and under that I stamped a butterfly.  Butterfly stamp is a Flourishes stamp and I colored it with Copics. I also added a bit of Sakura sparkle with a pen.  Sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.  I got the idea for this card from a tutorial that I found online (HERE).  She gives a very nice video tutorial for how to create this card.  I LOVE how it turned out, but I will tell you that it took me a while to get it right.

This last card is stamped with a Flourishes stamp (Butterflies and Blooms), and colored with Copics. The sentiment is also Flourishes.  The dark background is layered on a white card base and is Bo Bunny paper.  I added three purple pieces of bling to the top corner.

That's all for me today. Hope you're having a great weekend. Thanks so much for stopping by! Your comments are always appreciated!  Until next time....

Challenge 35 - A Tile in a Tile...huh?

Yes...the challenge this week at I am the diva is..... to create a "Tile on a Tile". Place the dots way in from the corners and leave a very generous border. Add your pencil string over the entire tile. You'll need to think about which tangles are darker and which are lighter, to help define the mini-tile, although shading will help too. You may want a light mini-tile on a dark background, or a dark mini-tile on a light background.

Well, I'm not sure I did this exactly right...but here's my tries. I used a 4 x 4 tile for both tangles.  For the first one, I made the center tile...and it's kind of small, then added the outer borders ....guess I didn't actually draw a "string".  I'm a rebel like that sometimes! LOL!

This second one is my favorite.  I decided to have a center tile in a circle...the light area....then added darker tangles around the outside going all the way to the edges of the tile.

So...tell me what you think...which is your favorite.  Thanks for popping over to visit! Your comments are always welcomed and greatly appreciated!  Until next time....

LIM28 - Inky & More Tangles

This week's challenge at Less is More is to create a card using ink.  I think Chrissie and Mandi sit up nights just to come up with these difficult challenges! LOL!  Well, every week I use ink, but this week the challenge is to use ink (or ink pads) in a different way than I normally would.  I can tell you, this was definitely a challenge for me.  I thought and thought...nothing.

Finally, I decided to drag out my tattered angels misting sprays (that's ink....right?)  I must have 8 or 10 bottles of this stuff....and ~hiding face in shame~ I've never actually used it on a project!  So, what the heck....might as well give it a whirl.  After about 4 attempts, I finally finished this card and I'm reasonably satisfied with it.

I used a Kraft card base and masked off the area I wanted to spray with the glimmer mists.  I used a golden yellow on the top portion and the bottom portion I used a ivy green.  Both have a shimmer to them, but I'm not sure you can tell by this photo.  The sentiment is a Tim Holtz sentiment, the grass and flowers are from PTI and the butterfly is a Bo Bunny stamp.  I doodled a little trail for the butterfly.  I also stamped the butterfly in gold, then again in brown. It looks cool in real life, but it's hard to see here. I might also mention that the glitter mist sprays buckle the card stock pretty bad, so I had to work to flatten the card after I was finished.

Not being totally satisfied, I decided to give something else a try.  I've used this method before and had relatively good success. Should have known it wouldn't be so easy this time.

I used a white card base and masked off the area for inking with post it notes.  I sponged some green and blue inks inside the masked area.  The plants are PTI stamps as is the sentiment (from two different collections).  This card I have posted is the third card I made...totally messed up the first two...bad inky messes.  Maybe I should have posted them...after all, this challenged was about being Inky! LOL!

Thought I'd also share a few of the tangles I've been making lately.  This first one kind of reminds me of a flower.  The image is drawn on a 5 x 5 inch square of white Bristol board.

This second one was for a challenge to complete a tangle using circles. This one was also on a 5 x 5 inch piece of Bristol board.

I love how this one turned out....I think I'll call it The Mouth!  I was inspired by a drawing I saw that is very similar to the way this one turned out.

That's all for today. Thanks so much for stopping by!  Your comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated! Until next time...

Challenge #34 - Circles with Lines

I wanted to revisit Challenge #34 - Opposites Attract.  The first piece I did (you can see here) was to used straight lines for the string and add only circular or curved tangles.  After looking at all the beautiful pieces entered into the challenge, I wanted to go back and try the circle strings with just line tangles.  So...here it is...

I think I really like how this came out.  I generally work on my tangles while watching television each evening, and I'm often amazed by some of the work I do.  Sometimes it's a good amazed and sometimes it a huh?  amazed.  I just never know where my pen will lead me!

Here's a second piece I finished last night.
No idea what it is...but it kind of makes me think of a helmet...hmmmmm......

I can't believe I've posted three times in two days...so, I really appreciate you stopping by...again...and I do appreciate your wonderful comments.  They make my happy!!

Until next time...

LIM27 - And my Mojo's Missing...

I almost didn't play in this weeks LIM challenge.  Our challenge this week is to make a card using the colors of our nation's flag.  I'm proud to be an American, and proud of our flag...but for the life of me, I couldn't think of anything to do!

I finally came up with two cards that I need for a couple of wedding I have coming up...but really?  Red, white and blue for a wedding card?  Oh well, since I've made them, I'll probably go ahead and give them...maybe I won't sign it so they won't know who made it!

This first card has two layers on the card base, a blue layer and a white layer.  I punched the edges of both layers with the Martha Steward lacy border punch.  The two red buttons, I've had in my stash forever, and I was too lazy to get out the embroidery floss to stitch them, so I just cut a thin strip of white paper and used that to "sew" them on!  The sentiment is stamped in Memento blue and is a Flourishes stamp.  I tied a ribbon around the two layers and added a bow.  Super simple....but I'm still not sure it's very wedding-ish!

This second card I made just because I already had the two hearts stamped and mounted on red card stock.  Super simple...and Oops...just noticed that I didn't finish doodling my faux stitching all the way across the thin strip....drat!  Anyway, there are two strips of blue card stock and one piece of 3/8 inch ribbon across the card. Same sentiment as before. One heart is adhered to the card and the other is pop-dotted.

Sorry for having such disappointing cards this week.  I must have misplaced my mojo....

Sharing a layout I finished recently...

Here's a layout I did recently of one of my grandsons.  I did manage to use a few Flourishes stamps on this (for the leaves).  I stamped the leaves on patterned paper and cut them out, then pop dotted them on some punched circles.  Added a bit of faux stitching. Title work was cut with Quikutz dies. Papers are from Close to My Heart.  I added two borders across the bottom of the photo and a touch of 3-D pearl drops.  I tied some jute string through a button around the frame.  The stamped quote is "We do not remember days, we remember moments".

Challenge #34 - Opposites Attract

The challenge this week at I am the Diva blog is hosted by Christina (aka stART).  She has challenged us to Create a string using EITHER straight lines alone, or solely curving shapes and then fill the string with its opposite!

If you used the straight-line string, fill it with curves and orbs and other soft tangles.
If you used the curvy string, try to fill it using only grid-based and angular tangles.

So, I chose the straight lines and filled in with curves and orbs....Here it is:

While you're here, I thought I'd share a few more of my recent tangles.  A friend told me that she needed something with lots of hearts....this is just for her....

This next piece, I made just the other night while watching television.  I recently did a piece with pendrills and I've incorporated a few of those into this 4x4 piece. I really love how this one turned out.

That's all for now. Thanks so much for stopping by! Your comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated!  Until next time....

I'm All "Tangled" Up....

This week's challenge at I am the Diva blogspot, is to learn a new tangle called Pendrills, which you can find here on the Zentangle blog.  I did the tile below with the new tangle...and added a few blooms....not sure why, but....mostly, because I could! LOL! I think I really like this new tangle.

This next photo was another new challenge for me.  It's called Mehndi.  I'd never heard of it, so I did a little research and decided to give it a try. (Mehndi is the traditional art of henna painting in India and the Middle East.)   I traced my left hand onto Bristol board and then proceeded to add a few tangles.  I really like how this came out...really cool!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Your comments are welcomed and much appreciated!  Until next time....
